More Classification Algorithms for QGIS

Carson Farmer has written some new classification functions for QGIS. QGIS 1.5 only has “Equal Interval” and “Quantiles” classification algorithms implemented. Carson added the following algorithms to trunk:

  • Jenks Optimisation (or Natural Breaks)
  • Standard Deviation
  • R’s “Pretty” algorithm

  1. This is great. I just found out about the “new symbology” panel – the old one should just go away.

Unfortunately I don’t yet understand how to “install” python scripts such as Carson’s.

You can change your QGIS settings to use New Symbology by default. Old Symbology will be removed when all important issues with New Symbology have been solved and missing functionality has been implemented. QGIS 2.0 is a save bet for that :)

Carson’s script is already in trunk. You don’t need to install anything.
